UPDATE!  Nollie Jenkins Family Center went throughout the city of Durant and took pictures of the devastation and spoke to community to get a feel of what was needed and listed below are some of the immediate needs:

  • Food (non-perishable)
  • Flashlights (with batteries)
  • Toilet tissue
  • Paper towel
  • Soap
  • Hygiene  items
  • Laundry detergent
  • Throw blankets

There is a need for HELP in terms of the clean up and getting housing for residents who lost their homes and those who are unable to stay in their homes due to the extensive damage.  We would like some answers; such as where is FEMA?  Why Governor Phil Bryant has not come to look at the damage and declare a state of emergency?  Where is the help to remove the uprooted trees, clean up the debris, and additional help to restore power throughout the county?

Not only was Durant hit hard by the tornado, but also surrounding cities (Goodman, Pickens, and Highway 17 North).  The residents have not heard anything to date nor has there been a community meeting.  Again, people are in need and we need help now.
